Friday testing was seriously hampered by front rocker failure, leading to a inconsistent car all day. Following over night work to diagnose then fix the problem Paul Burt drove a strong FF2000 race despite battling with rising temperatures caused by a holed radiator on the first lap. Having started 8th on the grid, Paul climbed to a competitive 6th until failing engine performance due to extreme temperatures dropped him back to 8th and a solid top 10 finish.

March 2011 News

The 2011 season started at Brands Hatch last weekend with strong performances from both Andy and Paul in both the Classic FF1600 and Classic FF2000 championships.

Following a fantastic performance in Testing on Friday in both the FF2000 & FF1600 Andy qualified 2nd for both FF1600 championship races. After two races and titanic battles Andy finished 2nd in race 1 an forth in race 2 despite a spin in race 1.

Paul having qualified 9th in the classic FF2000 worked his way through the field to finish 6th despite the wrong tyre choice, in very slippery and damp conditions. Well done both Andy and Paul.

May 2011 News

Following a great start to the 2011 season the www.andypowellracing.co.uk team moved onto rounds 3 & 4 of the championship at Snetterton.

The weekend started well with Andy posting super competitive testing times in both the Royale RP26 FF1600 & the Van Diemen RF82 FF2000. Paul also posted a fantastic time in the last test session of the day in the FF2000.

Saturday would see two FF1600 races for Andy. Andy qualified 3rd for both races in a difficult qualifying session.  Following titanic battles in both races only came away with one 5th place after being taken off the track in both races. Even so Andy was “please with his driving performance”. Had he not been driven into in both races he would have surely added two more podium poistions to the 2011 season tally.

Paul qualified well for both FF200 races but had to retire from the second of the two races with engine problems.having posted a competitive 6th place in race 1

The results can be found at the following location http://www.tsl-timing.com/barc/2011/111822.pdf and open the Classic Formula ford pages.

A full race report pictures and video footage will be uploaded as soon as available so watch this space.

11/08/2011 Castle Combe Testing Update:

Thursday saw both Reg & Andy driving the www.andypowellracing.co.uk Classic Clubmans in Testing. Following some initial tricky wet conditions Reg started to return some more consistent times towards the end of the day. The final session of the day was Andy’s first chance to drive the car in anger. After some initial sighting laps Andy managed a time of 1.11:00 within three seconds of the lap record.

NEWS FLASH: 13/08/2011 Castle Combe Race Update:

Today Andy Powell made his Classic Clumans debut in the Gryphon Pink Panther. After qualifying well in the top six Andy challenged hard for a podium position in the opening stages of the race before a broken valve spring felt him fighting to hold onto forth. Eventually the lack of straight line speed at the super fast Castle Combe circuit demoted him to 5th. However after such a strong performance with only 8 proper laps of testing there is a great deal more to come the next time Andy gets to drive the now famouse Pink Panther. Watch this space. More news and pictures follow.
